THE WINKY&DUTCH #TBT LOOKS BACK AT WALL STREET circa SPRING 2000

THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING IN 2000 BROUGHT THE FOLLOWING NEWS:

    • 4+ INCHES OF SNOW TO NEW YORKERS
    • TIME MAGAZINE DECLARED  DESIGN/FORM RULED OVER FUNCTION
    • PEOPLE WEEKLY WAS PROUD TO REPORT THAT JULIA ROBERTS WAS IN CONTROL
    • LUCKILY REAL NEWS WAS BEING REPORTED:  WINKY&DUTCH CUFFLINKS MADE THE COVER ........
    • WE MADE THE COVER OF WALL STREET CREATIONS CATALOG SPRING COLLECTION ISSUE

Self labeled as a 'Financial Insiders Catalog', it was chock full of everything the business executive or tycoon would need from Dollar Sign, Stop & Go sign or Buy & Sell cufflinks from Winky&Dutch to giant pocket knives and even bar carts in the shape of a vintage globe.  All of these goodies were in stock and waiting to be shipped out to their customers who called the 1-800 number to order.  We found it funny that they had computer keyboard cufflinks but no website listed to shop from....but hey it was 2000.

Be sure to check out the newest updates and additions to shopwinky.com every day new artwork and collection pieces are being uploaded for your shopping pleasure.

Happy #TBT To All, And To All A Good Night Light

Throwback Thursday to September 24, 1998 - New York Times Late Edition
Front Page Photo: Hillary Clinton, Charles Schumer, Nelson Mandela, and Alphonse D'Amato
Front Page News: The Dow was up 257 points thanks to Alan Greenspan
Thanks to an article by Marianne Rohrlich the news for Winky&Dutch was a little further back on section F page 4
There it was, The Winky&Dutch Space Lamp , top left hand corner, of the page most watched by the fashion flock.
The Space Lamp was part of a story dedicated to night lights and the children who loved them.  Winky&Dutch loved the lamp and found it appropriate for anyone and everyone regardless of age. There were hard hitting quotes from Underwriters Laboratories reminding us, "lamps are not toys", despite the fact there was a photo of a 19 month old little girl kissing a lamp - which we found odd.  Luckily Steve Karchin, owner of Alphaville, made it "our article" with the mention of his childhood covered-wagon lamp and that kids now gravitate towards anything space travel related.  Enter the Space Lamp by Winky&Dutch inspired by a 1950's lunch box.    We were and are incredibly grateful to the New York Times, Marianne Rohrlich and Alphaville, for this amazing opportunity and coverage. We look forward to another one soon!

WINKY&DUTCH THROWBACK THURSDAY MOMENT: JUNE 20, 1994 NEW YORK MAGAZINE ASKS, "IS EVERYBODY GAY?"

While New York Magazine was asking questions on the cover, Winky&Dutch was scoring some serious page space in the fashion editorial section.  Winky&Dutch was given 2 prominent placements in the same spread.  Two pairs of our cufflinks were included in a list titled, "Best Bets" with the following headline, "The best possible things to buy in the best of all possible cities." We couldn't agree more, Winky&Dutch has the best possible things to buy, and for Winky&Dutch it all began in New York City.

The cufflinks shown above are both available in addition to 800 other options for you to choose from, please check out our well edited selection just for you at shopwinky.com, while they are 25%off.  Use code 25GRAD2015 at checkout to receive the discount and for free ground shipping!

We don't know if New York Magazine ever got a clear answer to their cover question, BUT we do know that Winky&Dutch has stood the test of time, forging ahead, and still proudly making our jewelry in the United States.

Winky&Dutch TBT Moment: Spring 1997 - Time Out New York was High On The Hamptons

May 1997 was an interesting pop culture & fashion mix.  Paris was overflowing with "maximalism" and at the same time in NYC, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Kelly Klein, and Gwyneth Paltrow were being hailed as part of fashions new "clean team".  Somehow in all of this,  bib overalls managed to have a fashion moment, and Hanson was at the top of the Billboard charts.  BUT LUCKILY, in May of '97 fashion was given the gift of inspiration, in film form. The Fifth Element.  The Fifth Element was clearly the inspiration for the editorial above, and Winky&Dutch is thrilled that TimeOut NewYork saw us as part of fashions future by placing our Union Jack wristband and the skull and crossbones arm band in the editorial.   While we no longer carry the armbands, we have a few pieces from our archives in the same material.  The Winky&Dutch zipper coin pouches in Union Jack or Burning Flames each only $5.  If skulls, or skull&crossbones are your thing you have to check out our assortment at The Winky&DutchCoStore on shopwinky.com  What goes around comes back around, always!  Have a great Thursday
